After the The Defenders' shock ending, the Man Without Fear himself, Charlie Cox, has had his say about the miniseries' pivotal final scene and what it might mean for his own solo series, Daredevil.

Cox discussed the scene with Hollywood Reporter, and mentioned that the moment mirrors a scene in Daredevil: Born Again. Viewers have already started speculating that the fan-favorite comic might define the direction of Daredevil's third season -- but would Cox himself like this to happen?

"For sure," Cox said. "That's such an amazing story. Everyone who loves Daredevil loves Born Again. You can't not. And if that's the case, then the implications of that would be very exciting to me. That would be great."

The actor was quick to clarify that, much like the show's previous seasons, the upcoming third season likely will not remain beholden to the comics, but rather find its own unique spin on the source material.

"Having said that, I know we don't tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion," Cox said. "There may be elements from Born Again, but I'm sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making Born Again page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it -- the hardcore fans -- they won't have too much drama."

Daredevil: Born Again is a Frank Miller story, so straight away the tone of the comic suits the Netflix series' darker aesthetic. The story sees Daredevil's identity torn apart by the formidable Wilson Fisk -- dismantling the titular character's life piece by piece. Matt Murdock loses money, his law license, his budding reputation and even his home.

These foul strikes cause Matt to seek revenge on the Kingpin himself, though that doesn't quite work out. Instead, he ends up beaten and left in a stolen taxi.
