Danny Boyle Plans 28 Months Into The Future

Director Danny Boyle followed his Oscar-winning turn as the director of Slumdog Millionaire with 127 Hours, his increasingly buzzed-about biopic starring James Franco as Aron Ralston, a mountain climber who was forced to amputate his own arm after being pinned by a boulder for nearly a week. A horrific tale to be sure, but Boyle might go even deeper into the horror genre for his next picture.

Dread Central reports that Boyle has expressed interest in returning to the 28 Days Later franchise for its third and latest installment, tentatively titled 28 Months Later. When asked if he would be producing the third film in the series, Boyle replied: “Actually, I want to direct it.”

Boyle’s 28 Days Later began in the immediate aftermath of a viral outbreak that caused much of mankind to become mindless, rage-filled, blood-lusting creatures. The second film in the series, 28 Weeks Later, ended with the outbreak getting even worse. With more than two years elapsing between the second and third films, who knows what the landscape will be when (and if) Boyle returns to the director’s chair.
