Actor Daniel Radcliffe recently responded to rumors that he is set to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Speaking to ComicBook.com, Radcliffe stated, "So many times, people come to me like, 'hey, man, heard about the Wolverine news. That's really cool.' I'm like, 'Mate... I don't know anything about it." After casting doubts over the rumors by comparing himself to the iconic Hugh Jackman, Radcliffe stated, "Prove me wrong, Marvel!"
Rumors concerning Radcliffe and Wolverine have been circulating since at least 2019, several years after Hugh Jackman bowed out from the role with 2017's Logan. More recently, rumors have begun to circulate -- though not necessarily related to Radcliffe -- suggesting Wolverine may appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It was reported that a new actor is attached at it won't be Jackman. No further details have been suggested concerning which actor might bear the adamantium claws.
Others rumored to be taking on the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe include actor Taron Egerton, who also denied any involvement in the MCU and the role. Discussing the rumors, Egerton recently said, "That's like playing Bond... It would be exciting to play a role where you play to by such a huge audience. Those movies are the most watched movies in the world... It's a great thrill and it's a great part. But there's no truth in it. Very flattering, though."
While Marvel Studios has not provided any official confirmation regarding these rumors, speculation persists owing to the apparent inclusion of Professor Charles Xavier in the Doctor Strange sequel, with Sir Patrick Stewart reprising the role from the X-Men franchise. Though his voice was heard in the film's first full trailer, Stewart cast doubts in interviews that followed for a time, before finally confirming it was his voice. He explained, "It wasn't until the next morning when I woke up and looked at my phone and found that I had been bombarded with responses and that my PR people had sent me reactions that they had detailed and passed onto me… I actually didn't recognize my own voice, it sounded different."
Wolverine made his live-action debut in 2000's X-Men, in which he was played by Jackman. It was a role the actor returned to for nine films across nearly two decades, with the original X-Men trilogy, the prequel films and the Wolverine solo films, including Logan. Since then, Jackman has consistently stated that he is finished with the role and has no intention of returning to it.
