Judging by a newly released promotional image for the CW's "Supergirl" series, it looks like tonight's episode will put the Girl of Steel through a bit of a crisis. The image, featuring Tyler Hoechlin's Superman carrying the body of Melissa Benoist's Supergirl, is an homage to George Perez's iconic cover for "Crisis on Infinite Earths" #7.

The issue from 1985 is notable for Supergirl fans mostly because, as indicated by the original cover, it includes the death of the Silver Age Supergirl. Of course it's highly unlikely that the CW's Supergirl will suffer the same fate; after all, she's the lead of the show. But this is still a pitch perfect homage to one of the most well-known comic covers of all time. You can check out a side-by-side comparison below:

The teaser advertises tonight's episode of the CW series, the second in the show's sophomore season. The synopsis for the episode reads:

IAN GOMEZ STARS AS SNAPPER CARR — CADMUS attacks National City with a kryptonite powered villain who ends up seriously hurting Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin) blames Hank (David Harewood) because the kryptonite was stolen from the DEO. Meanwhile, Kara’s first day at her new job doesn’t go as planned after she meets her new boss, Snapper Carr (guest star Ian Gomez).

Starring Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, "Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott and features appearances by Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant as well as Tyler Hoechlin's Superman.
