After reports that originated on Bleeding Cool and ComicBook.com, CBR has independently confirmed that the CW has cast Canadian character actor Mark Gibbon as General Zod on the hit DC Comics-based series "Supergirl."

Having previously appeared on the WB Network's "Smallville" and CW's "Arrow," Gibbon additionally had a small role in "Man of Steel," in which he portrayed an oil rig worker who was saved by the Man of Tomorrow himself, Superman.

A classic foe of Superman, Zod has appeared in live-action numerous times, first being portrayed by Terrence Stamp in "Superman II," and again decades later by Michael Shannon in "Man of Steel." The character also made an appearance on "Smallville," portrayed by Callum Blue.

Zod will make his "Supergirl" debut in the season finale, which will air at 8pm ET on Monday, May 22. Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin) and Cat Grant (played by Calista Flockhart) will also make appearances in the episode.

Starring Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, "Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott and features appearances by Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant as well as Tyler Hoechlin's Superman.
