Much of Marvel's recent publicity has revolved around the upcoming "Secret Wars" series from Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic, but it's 1984's original "Secret Wars" that's at the center of "Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars," announced Thursday by Buzzfeed. The series -- part of Marvel's "Warzones" branding of "Secret Wars" tie-ins, and detailing Wade Wilson's previously unrevealed role in the first "Secret Wars" -- will be written by frequent "Deadpool" miniseries scribe Cullen Bunn, with no artist announced.

"The great thing about writing Deadpool is that he can demolish expectations and typical comic book conventions with monster truck force," Bunn told Buzzfeed. "I think readers are willing to accept that Deadpool was and always has been part of the original 'Secret Wars'... He was there, and his actions helped shape every major shake-up and revelation from that event!"

Bunn also shared that Deadpool's involvement with the first "Secret Wars" has been long in the works. "Not long after I wrote 'Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe,' I pitched the story of Deadpool infiltrating the events of the first 'Secret Wars' and having an in-continuity impact on that story. So, this one has been on my mind for a while. "

No release month has been announced for "Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars," though given the solicitation cycle, May is likely.
