CSBG Advent Calendar – A Super Christmas, Day 17

And now for Day 17, #8 on the countdown is…

“Superman’s Last Christmas” from “Superman” #369 by Cary Bates, Rich Buckler and Frank McLaughlin.

In the issue, Superman has to deal with the Parasite on two different, equally dangerous fronts. Well, one of them is literally dangerous, as the Parasite has absorbed enough of his powers to pose a possibly fatal threat to him. But the other one is dangerous to his secret identity, as the Parasite absorbed enough of Superman’s memories to learn his secret identity. The Parasite then decided to frame Clark Kent as a spy, with a government agent looking into Clark. However, after Superman defeated Parasite on the whole “power-sucking” front, we see that a Christmas miracle has helped Clark Kent on the spy front…

That is an absolutely adorable ending. The Kents’ kindness paying off years down the line is a wonderful message at Christmastime. What a great bit by Bates.
