Sylvester Stallone got action fans talking last night when he dropped the following tweet:

The first thing that comes to mind, of course, is that Mel Gibson will play the villain in The Expendables 3, facing off against Stallone's Barney Ross. Before Gibson offended just about everyone in the world, he got his big break in 1979'sl Mad Max.

Stallone, who put the Expendables franchise together himself, hiring his fellow action stars to fill the various roles, has continued to do that with the third film. So far we've heard that Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage, Milla Jovovich and Wesley Snipes are involved in the project.

There is another possibility, though: Note how Stallone used the Mad Max character and not an actor's name. Well, Mad Max: Fury Road has been in the works for a while, with Tom Hardy in the title role.
