The digital comics juggernaut comiXology is having quite a week: Mark Waid put his Insufferable, which is also hosted on his own Thrillbent site, onto the service, and the company signed a deal with Andrews McMeel for digital versions of Doonesbury, Dilbert and Big Nate. And today comiXology debuted something that was initially announced in October: ComiXology Submit, which allows creators to submit their own creator-owned comics to the platform. Here's the deal, fresh from the press release:

All submissions for comiXology Submit go through an approval process and when approved comiXology will transform the uploaded work with their Guided View technology – for free. Then the work goes on sale worldwide with the creator and comiXology splitting the profits evenly.

The 14 comics and graphic novels on the site are not exactly the work of a ragtag group of unknowns; they include Hatter M: Far From Wonder #1, by Frank Beddor, which was first published in print in 2010; As We Were, written by veteran webcomicker Kel McDonald; Evil Inc: Real Housewives of Transylvania #7, by another veteran webcomics creator, Brad Guigar; Relaunch #1, by Ron Perazza and Daniel Govar, which they debuted on their Comic Book Think Tank site; and Too Much Coffee Man Favorites #1, a collection of TMCM comics by Eisner Award winner Shannon Wheeler. Of course, these are the creators who are in the private beta; the service will be opened to all creators sometime after the new year. But it's not a free-for-all: To be published via comiXology submit, each comic must be approved by comiXology's board of reviewers.

Prices are all over the place, from 99 cents for some of the single-issue comics to $9.99 for the Hatter M graphic novel.
