Opens May 1, 2015
Kevin Feige has revealed that Marvel Studios’ plan is to do “one sequel, one new character” every year, similar to the plan for 2015 with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Ant-Man.”
“[‘Guardians of the Galaxy’] fulfilled our desire to do something different,” Feige told IGN, “to start producing, each year, a film that was the sequel to a pre-existing, successful franchise and do something new. We’re doing that next year with Age of Ultron, with Ant-Man, and hope to maybe continue that model in the coming years. … I don’t know that we’ll keep to [that model] every year, but what we’re doing this year and what we’re doing next year is: existing franchise, new franchise, existing franchise, new franchise. So I think it would be fun to continue that sort of thing. I don’t know that we will [do that] all the time, but as a general model, I think that would be fun.”
Feige also spoke with ScreenCrush about the topic of diversity in Marvel films, with the website comparing possible backlash on the subject to the reaction to the initial “Star Wars Episode VII” cast photo.
“I don’t think J.J. Abrams or the ‘Star Wars’ people — I have no idea — but my guess is that they were not swayed by any backlash,” Feige told ScreenCrush. “We’re not going to be swayed by the backlash. We’re going to keep bringing the movies out the way we envision it and the way we believe in it — and that includes diversity in all of the active films. And certainly, on our development slate of many of the characters — some of which you just named — and always being conscious of that. The great thing for us is the comics have been conscious of that through the decades and have been rather pioneering in that over the years.”
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
History is repeating itself for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” with Paramount releasing a new rap single for the film, similar to Vanilla Ice’s “Ninja Rap” from “The Secret of the Ooze” and “Turtle Power” by Partners in Kryme.
