GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
“Guardians of the Galaxy” broke the record for biggest Thursday opening of 2014. Grossing $11.2 million domestically, the film is well on its way to make a big showing at the box office — possibly even reaching an estimated $70 million, which would make it the best August opening of all time.
For those that haven’t seen the new film yet, Comic Book Movie has posted a new clip of Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon piloting mining pods. It’s a cool sequence, but don’t watch if you’d prefer not to be spoiled on anything.
Finally, The Washington Post spoke with director James Gunn about the connection to the Earthbound Marvel Cinematic Universe — Thanos.
“I wanted Thanos in the movie,” Gunn told The Washington Post. “I wanted to be attached to ‘The Avengers.’ Admittedly, Thanos was a giant pain in the (expletive) because I had to talk with (‘Avengers’ writer-director) Joss Whedon and those guys. That was the one part where there were a lot of discussions. At a certain point, I think everyone just gave up, and we just did what we wanted.”

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
/Film has confirmed with Kevin Feige that Thanos will not currently planned to appear in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
“He’s not a part of ‘Avengers 2.’ I think Thanos does what he wants, and shows up where he wants to, and I’m not going to tell him otherwise,” Feige told /Film. “You don’t know exactly; smirking at the end of ‘Avengers.’ By the way, we’re still making ‘Avengers 2,’ so nothing’s definitive one way or the other, actually.”

Corey Stoll spoke with Nerd Repository about his role as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket in “Ant-Man” and specifically, his costume.
“I’ve had several costume fittings and it’s looking amazing. It’s still in flux, they’re still figuring out exactly how it’s going to look, but it’s going to be awesome,” Stoll told Nerd Repository. “In this story Darren Cross, who was in the comic books but was not Yellowjacket in the comic books, he has a suit that is sort of the next generation of Ant-Man’s suit. It can do everything that Ant-Man can do, but more. It’s more badass, more militaristic, sleeker… sort of like if Apple had designed a battle suit.”

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
IGN spoke with Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen about plans for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” season two, and what to expect from the Avengers-Coulson connection.
“The Avengers don’t know that Coulson’s alive,” said Gregg. “He certainly, when Lady Sif shows up, he asked her not to tell Thor because he wants to tell Thor himself. It’s a big moment, and as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s going to be somewhat more difficult to keep that secret from them. I don’t have — even Director Coulson doesn’t have the security clearance to know when and how that would be revealed, and whether it will be on our television show, a different television show, a film, a radio play — I don’t know.”
Returns this Fall on ABC
Marvel’s other big television series airing on ABC this fall is “Agent Carter,” and IGN spoke with star Hayley Atwell and executive producer Louis D’Esposito about bringing Peggy Carter to her own series.
“You’re seeing the SSR and Peggy Carter working for the SSR and eventually how it becomes S.H.I.E.L.D. — but that will not happen in the first season. It takes a little bit of time,” said D’Esposito. “They just defeated Hydra, so I’m not sure they’re going to be in the first season, but you’ll eventually see them, yes.”
“It’s very exciting,” said Atwell. “I’ve been loosely attached to this project being a possibility for quite a while now. To be back at Comic-Con, I think it cements it as a reality for me. It’s already changed my life being a part of the Captain America franchise. It’s so nice to go into something that’s so big, but with people that I’ve worked with before and love dearly. It’s a big adventure for me and I’ve got 10 weeks of intense training before I’m fit to have the stamina it takes to play Peggy.”
Debuts this Fall on ABC
Minor casting news for “Arrow” — TV Guide reports that “NYPD Blue” actress Charlotte Ross has been cast as Felicity Smoak’s mother for the third season of “Arrow.” Ross’ casting matches up with comments from the executive producers that there will be more of a focus on Felicity this year and her “secret origin.”
Returns October on the CW
“The Flash” executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg spoke with CBR TV about what to expect from the upcoming debut season — and the many expectations that fans have.
“We’ve always been the beneficiary of low expectations, so it’s an odd sensation now,” said Kreisberg. “But we’re fans first. If we weren’t being interviewed, we’d be out there [at Comic-Con]. We try to make a show for ourselves, a show that we would want to see, and hopefully, people come along for it. Right now, we’re just really proud of what we’ve done and the work that all the actors have done, the visual effects — and hopefully, the audience will respond the same way they have to ‘Arrow.'”

THE WALKING DEAD
Entertainment Weekly has posted transcripts of its Comic-Con interview with Robert Kirkman — and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans that he has a plan for the survivors.
“I got a pretty good idea when all of them are dying,” Kirkman told EW. “To a certain extent, if we follow the comic, like possibly even more than [showrunner] Scott [Gimple] knows. So I’m always like…two years, three years, six months, two weeks, oh, God this is awful! It’s really rough. Doing the comic, it was fine because it was just lines on a paper. Whatever. We’re killing that guy. Cool. But the show, it sucks because we all work together, we hang out, and have a great time. But, you know, the story’s gotta get done and people gots to die, as I like to say. It’s pretty rough.”
