Starting as a simple podcast, Nerdist has grown into a major player in geek games after its 2012 purchase by Legendary Entertainment. With creator Chris Hardwick busy hosting every show that will have him, Legendary Digital Entertainment has launched the next phase of the Nerdist and Geek & Sundry brand: an interactive and premium content platform called Alpha.

To celebrate the launch, Alpha has offered a sneak peek at its new web series "Vast," a science fiction tabletop RPG created by writer Jackson Lanzing ("Grayson"). Throughout the four-hour first episode, Lanzing teaches  the rules of the game to a group of players that includes fellow comic book creators Collin Kelly, Kate Leth and Amy Dallen.

The two teams of players will rotate from week to week as they explore the far reaches of the galaxy in a setting where Earth no longer exists.

Other shows on Alpha include "Watch Your Language" with comedian/rapper Zach Sherwin, the "Critical Role" after-show "Talks Machina," and "Sidekick" with "Nerdist" podcast co-host Matt Mira.

According to the website, Alpha has grand plans that include the ability for members to interact with hosts and help create the direction of the platform via polling. To see a full slate of available content and sign up for a free 30-day trial visit projectalpha.com.
