After an earlier computer issue forced Comic-Con International to push back its on sale date for tickets to the 2011 event in San Diego at the start of this month, the organization's planned kick off for registration today has also shut down due to procedural issues. CCI released the following statement to CBR News, which will shortly be posted on its website:

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

Once more, unfortunately, there have been issues with Comic-Con registration. So we have, again decided to close it down.

We are well aware that many people have taken time from work, school or other activities and others woke up very early. There really is no way to convey our level regret for this turn of events.

We are currently researching our registration options.

Reached for additional comment, Comic-Con Director of Marketing and Public Relations David Glanzer said, "To be honest with you, we don't know [what the specific issue is.]" Glanzer did note that even though this morning the CCI website was slow for a few brief minutes due to a port being overloaded, it seems today's problems are coming due to an error in the system for the Event Planning International Corporation (AKA EPIC), which is contracted by Comic-Con to aid in registration.

"EPIC has been working on their site since easily 6:00 this morning, but the decision was made to go ahead and shut down registration again," he added, saying that it was unknown when registration would restart.

"It's still an incredibly fluid situation over here and if there's anything I could convey to everyone is that there's an amazing sense of frustration on our part, which is nothing compared to the frustration of those who have been trying to log on for the last two or three hours. We can't apologize enough."

Stay tuned to CBR for more news on when Comic-Con 2011 registration will reopen as it becomes available.
