It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? The streak began on September 27, 2012. Let’s see if it is still going on!
Week 231 was Joe Jusko’s cover for Amazing Spider-Man #24, which homaged Steve Ditko’s corner boxes for Amazing Spider-Man comic book issues.
Week 233 was Paul Rivoche’s cover for Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #2, which homaged Gil Kane’s cover for Green Lantern #52.
Week 234 was Alex Ross’ cover for Amazing Spider-Man #25, which homaged John Romita’s cover for Spectacular Spider-Man #2.
Week 235 was Kaare Andrews’ cover for Iron Fist #1, which homaged the album cover for Redman’s Doc’s Da Name.
Week 236 was Ryan Dunlavey’s cover for Comic Book History of Comics #5, which homaged Jack Kirby’s cover for Fantastic Four #1.
Week 237 was Toni Infante’s cover for Sons of the Devil #11, which homaged Francis Manapul’s cover for Flash #1.
Week 238 was Jimmy Cheung’s cover for Black Panther: The Crew #1, which homaged the album cover for The Firm’s The Album.
Week 239 was Rafael Albuquerque & Moreno DiNisio’s cover for Black Science #29, which homaged John Cassaday’s cover for Uncanny Avengers #1.
Week 240 was Ilias Kyriazis’ cover for Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt #7, which homaged Gil Kane’s cover for Amazing Spider-Man #129.
Week 241 was Jeffrey Veregge’s cover for All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #1, which homaged the album cover for Goodie Mob’s Still Standing.
Week 242 was David Mack’s cover for Rocket #1, which homaged the album cover for A Tribe Called Quest’s We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service .
Week 243 (later today) is Kevin Wada’s cover for Generation X #1, which homages the album cover for Rae Sremmurd’s SremmLIfe 2.
