In this feature, I share with you three comic book “easter eggs.” An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check ’em all out and enjoy! Also, click here for an archive of all the easter eggs featured so far! If you want to suggest an easter egg for a future column, e-mail me at email@example.com (do not post your suggestion in the comments section!).
Today we take a look at the cast of the Big Bang Theory showing up in a recent issue of Ultimate Wolverine and also an easter egg bonanza in the pages of Micronauts where Jackson Guice went nuts with some graffiti…
First up, based on a suggestion from reader Acer, we have the cast of the Big Bang Theory guest-star in Ultimate Wolverine #2, as scientists that Wolverine and his associate have to intimidate for information…
David Messina and Gary Erskine drew the issue. I really don’t know who the old guy is supposed to be, though. Perhaps he’s just an unrelated original character?
Next, we have a big one, so big that I’m just going to fill the rest of this installment with it.
Reader Derrick suggested 1983’s Micronauts #53, where artist Jackson Guice (and possibly letterer Janice Chiang) filled the issue with graffiti that worked as easter eggs. I’m not even going to bother naming ALL of the Marvel staffers that got name-checked in this issue, but among them were Ann Nocenti, Ralph Macchio (editor of the book) and Jim Shooter (Editor-in-Chief of Marvel)….
Can YOU identify all of the graffiti references? I know I sure can’t. Way too many. You can click on the images to enlarge them!
Thansk to Derrick and Acer for the suggestions! If YOU have a suggestion for a future edition of Comic Book Easter Eggs, drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
