Comic Book Easter Eggs – Watchmen Easter Eggs!

In this feature, I share with you three comic book “easter eggs.” An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check ’em all out and enjoy! Also, click here for an archive of all the easter eggs featured so far! If you want to suggest an easter egg for a future column, e-mail me at (do not post your suggestion in the comments section!).

Today we take a look at a trio of Watchmen references in other comic books!

Before I begin, here’s a few earlier Comic Book Easter Egg installments with Watchmen easter eggs in them, just in case you folks think that I missed them.

1. Rorschach in Astonishing X-Men and a Watchmen reference on a Violator cover

2. Rorschach in Kingdom Come

3. Rorschach reference in Dark X-Men

Now, on to the new additions!

First up, reader Paul Lehnert suggested this reference in Suicide Squad #1 by John Ostrander to the Keene Act from Watchmen…

Next up, Silk Spectre, Nite Owl and seemingly Rorschach, as well, are flying in a ship remarkably similar to Nite Owl’s Archmides as part of this Atlantean invasion in Marvels #4 by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross…

Finally, Alan Moore and Zander Cannon have Rorschach hanging out with his inspiration, the Question, in the pages of Smax #1…

Thanks for the suggestion, Paul! If YOU have a suggestion for a future Easter Eggs column, let me know at!
