All throughout July, I will be sharing with you three comic book “easter eggs” a day. An easter egg is an in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check ’em all out and enjoy! Also, click here for an archive of all the easter eggs featured so far!
Can’t Leave Home Without Them…
In the mid-90s, Chris Claremont created a brand-new (creator-owned) series for DC Comics called Sovereign 7 (he co-created it with artist Dwayne Turner). The comic was about seven aliens from different worlds who were exiled together to Earth. Once there, they become superheroes. Their home base (and their place of employment) was a coffee bar called Crossroads. The very bar itself was an easter egg, as the properietors, Violet Smith and Pansy Jones…
were the stage names of Emma Bull and Lorraine Garland, a folk singing group known as The Flash Girls…
However, beyond that easter egg, the very nature of Crossroads was that it was, in fact, a crossroads – a place where you never know WHO will show up!
In issue #2, it is a short fellow who is really good at what he does…
In #3, it is Kitty Pryde, Illyana Rasputin and Lockheed!
Neat stuff. Sovereign 7 was a good comic.

Green Folks Tend to Stick Together
In Incredible Hulk #426, Bruce Banner is in a mental health facility. Guess who else is there?
Thanks to Fermin R. for the e-mail suggestion!
G.I. Joe – Threat or Menace?
In G.I. Joe #95, a fairly random cameo appears…
Thanks to yo go re for the e-mail suggestion!
If you can think of an easter egg/in-joke that you would like to see me feature, drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org! DON’T make suggestions in the comments section, so as to not spoil the surprise for when I end up actually featuring your suggestion.
NOTE: A word about suggestions. I’ve gotten so many (which is great – keep ’em coming!) that I am going through them in the order that I receive them. So if you wonder why I did not credit you for a suggestion you sent in, it is because someone else sent it in first. No offense intended!
