Every week, I will be sharing with you three comic book “easter eggs.” An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check ’em all out and enjoy! Also, click here for an archive of all the easter eggs featured so far! If you want to suggest an easter egg for a future column, e-mail me at email@example.com (do not post your suggestion in the comments section!).
This week, easter eggs include the Lost castaways popping up in the pages of Flash and a sly reference to a friend by Barry Kitson!
Reader Joe points out that in the latest issue of Flash, writer/artist Francis Manapul featured the castaways from Lost in the issue.
Could Manapul and writer/colorist Brian Buccellato be making a sly reference to the castaway plot that they have been doing themselves (where the Flash accidentally strands a group of citizens in another dimension)? Or is it just a fun little bit?
Reader Michael D. found a nice reference by Barry Kitson to a friend of his in Amazing Spider-Man #583. Here, I’ll let Michael set the scene…
Amy Katcher is an AMS meterologist turned news anchor at News 12, WDEF-TV in Chattanooga. (Katcher at 6, 7 and 11!) Her husband’s nickname for her is the mighty StormKatcher.
Family friend Barry Kitson, slipped Amy into a scene in an issue of Spider-Man, as a news anchor identified as Katchia Storm reads a news report.
Finally, a tricky one from reader Jamie.
In Wolverine and the X-Men #9, Chris Bachalo draws a group of aliens betting on what planet the Phoenix force will destroy next. Jamie thinks one of the aliens is meant to look like Red Sonja…
I am inclined to agree.
Okay, that’s it for next week! E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any easter egg suggestions!
