All throughout July, I will be sharing with you three comic book “easter eggs” a day. An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check ’em all out and enjoy! Also, click here for an archive of all the easter eggs featured so far!
Reader Leandro L. sent in the following bit from Incredible Hulk #413, where Peter David and Gary Frank show us a coyote stalking a roadrunner….
Later, the coyote is stunned before he can get the roadrunner…
And finally, an object falls from the sky and crushes the coyote…
Clever stuff by David and Frank. Thanks to Leandro for the e-mailed suggestion! Leandro had a bunch more suggestions. I think I’ll just have tomorrow be all suggestions he e-mailed in.
Reader Alek also e-mailed a number of suggestions. I’ve already featured the cast of Lost in a Wonder Woman panel, but how about a cool Lost reference in this panel from Captain America #34…
Neat. I wonder who was responsible for that? The penciler or the letterer?
Next, Alek sent in a suggestion from Quasar #14, where we see that one of the people on the Stranger’s world is none other than DC’s Starman, Will Payton….
Thanks for the e-mailed suggestions, Alek!
If you can think of an easter egg/in-joke that you would like to see me feature, drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org! DON’T make suggestions in the comments section, so as to not spoil the surprise for when I end up actually featuring your suggestion.
NOTE: A word about suggestions. I’ve gotten so many (which is great – keep ’em coming!) that I am going through them in the order that I receive them. So if you wonder why I did not credit you for a suggestion you sent in, it is because someone else sent it in first. No offense intended!
