Again, coinciding with First Second Books' Vampire Month, here's the next in our alphabet of comic book vampires!

This is definitely one of the more off-beat vampires on the list!!

Enjoy!

Greenberg the Vampire

Oscar Greenberg was a writer who also happened to be a vampire.

He was the star of J. M. DeMatteis and Steve Leialoha's early 1980s feature, Greenberg the Vampire.

He first appeared in the pages of Bizarre Adventures, but then was given his own Graphic Novel, and he is really ripe for a reappearance (I do not know if DeMatteis has any creator rights - if he does, come on, Marc! Bring him back!!).

The thing about vampires in the Greenberg world (DeMatteis was clear that Greenberg was not part of the regular Marvel continuity) is that they're really just normal people - normal people who need to drink about eight ounces of blood a day to survive. Luckily, Oscar's brother is a butcher, so he keeps Oscar filled.

Oscar was courted at his own Bar Mitzvah by the evil Lilith, but the one who actually got him was Denise Keaton, who transformed him into a vampire when she lost control of herself while they were having sex and bit him - three days later he rose as a vampire.

They continued dating, and over a series of years, ended up moving in together.

Oscar was caught up in a number of adventures (and some action!) but mostly he was just a normal guy.

It was a really fun feature by DeMatteis - I'd love to see more of it!
