"Captain America: Civil War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo will soon take their approach to superhero films global. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the Russos have signed on to produce a local-language superhero franchise for Chinese audiences. The Russos will also help develop the franchise, which is planned as a trilogy and is tentatively titled "A Hero's Awakening" in English.

The project will be directed by "Jungle Book" concept artist Anthony Leonari III and Chinese filmmaker Mushui Feng ("Demon Warrior"). The venture will be produced through the Russos' Anthem & Song boutique studio, which they set up to produce Chinese-language films for the Chinese market. The Russos are working with the production company Beijing FangJin Visual Media Culture Communication Company

While the plot of the film remains a secret, FangJin CEO Li Xing said that the film -- intended to be the first installment in a trilogy -- will star a Chinese hero and have a Chinese cast. The Russos are said to be "actively involved" in the casting.

"It is fair to say that the Russos are regarded as heroes in the global film business," Li told THR. "In the future, everyone will be focused on the China market. By working with the Russos, we want to use the best visual storytelling to make localized films that fit the Chinese market."

The announcement follows "Civil War's" massive opening weekend in the country. The film earned $95.8 million during its opening weekend in China, giving it the second-biggest opening weekend ever in the country. China was the biggest international market for their previous Marvel entry, 2014's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"; that film earned $115.6 million in the country.
