Mike Judge is a legend of sorts in the television world. Not only is he the mind behind the animated “Beavis and Butt-Head” and “King of the Hill," he is also the co-creator of the popular HBO comedy “Silicon Valley." Now, he's set his sights on another animated series.

Deadline reports Cinemax has given an eight-episode order to the show, currently titled “Mike Judge Presents: Tales From The Tour Bus." Created by Judge, Richard Mullins and Dub Cornett, it will chronicle the stories of country music’s most eccentric and iconic characters. Judge and Cornett will executive produce the show alongside Bob Engelman, with Mullins also on board as a producer.

This represents a big leap for Cinemxas, which hasn't invested in an original comedy series since the 1980s. However, the HBO subsidiary is currently in the process of recalibrating its original programming strategy, with a specific effort to get back into fun, high-octane, straight-to-series action dramas in a cost-effective way.

When Kara Antholis, Cinemax programming president, last spoke with Deadline, he said he was open to comedy series as long as they were able to be done “at a price” and as long as the series stayed “on brand for Cinemax.”
