“Chronicles of Narnia” will Return to Theaters with “The Silver Chair”

After six years away, the “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise is returning to the big screen. Eustace Scrubb, cousin to Lucy and Edmund, will return to Narnia in “The Silver Chair,” an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ fourth book, according to a report by Deadline.

That the franchise has remained out of a theaters for several years should be no obstacle for Lewis’s book, which — like the others– depends heavily on the time discrepancy between Narnia and the real world.

In Lewis’ novel, Eustace teams up with classmate Jill Pole, and the two flee to Narnia to escape the negative environment at their school. Charged with locating another mysterious task by the golden lion Aslan, the two travel across Narnia looking for the son of Prince Caspian, who is now King. Along the way they encounter magical creatures and unusual problems, and, of course, new friends.

Cast announcements have not been made yet, so it is unclear whether “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” stars Will Poulter and Ben Barnes — who played Eustace and Caspian, respectively — will return to reprise their roles. It has been confirmed, however, that the movie will be written by David McGee and directed by Ang Lee, who worked together on the film adaptation of Yann Martel’s novel “Life of Pi,” released in 2012.
