According to the Hollywood Reporter, Christian Bale, who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, is using his downtime in a positive way after Warner Bros. canceled press opportunities for “The Dark Knight Rises” following the theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado that left 12 dead and at least 59 wounded early Friday morning. Bale has taken it upon himself — not as agent of the film or Warner Bros, according to a rep for the studio — to visit victims wounded when a gunman opened fire on one of the film’s midnight screenings.
The actor previously issued a statement expressing his condolences for the victims, as did writer/director Nolan, but apparently he felt his actions could do more to give back to the wounded fans and community. Bale’s schedule opened up when Warner Bros. canceled TV spots and other promotional opportunities for the film, and the Academy Award-winning actor, who was in France at the time of the shooting, wasted little time making the trip to Colorado.
In addition to meeting and talking with the victims, Bale posed for pictures, an example of which can be seen in the above picture where the actor is seen with shooting victim Carey Rottman in an image posted on Rottman’s facebook page.
