Official Press Release
Chimaera Studios (www.chimaerastudios.com ) has ended its association with Speakeasy Comics. George T. Singley and Chuck Satterlee, the studio’s President and Operations Manager respectively, decided to pursue publishing elsewhere. Chimarea Studios wishes the best to the Speakeasy team and will certainly be rooting for their fellow creators in the near future.
The split means that the following books will no longer be published by Speakeasy:
Mutation, Of Bitter Souls, Super Crazy TNT Blast, Smoke & Mirror, Lonebow, Wargod, Project Eon and Silent Ghost.
These titles have found a new home and it is with UK based publisher Markosia Enterprises, LTD. (www.markosia.com
“We are very proud to have the opportunity to work with Chimaera Studios”, stated Harry Markos, Managing Director of Markosia. “The addition of the studio brings some wonderful titles to Markosia and we couldn’t be happier.”
“I believe this is a step in the right direction for Chimaera Studios”, stated George T. Singley, Chimaera’s founder. “Markosia has built a solid reputation for fairness and hard work over the past year and we intend to help build what is a great company to work with.”
Satterlee said, “Markosia has a great line of books from ‘Jazan Wild’s Carnival Of Souls’ to ‘The Lexian Chronicles’, ‘Starship Troopers’ and ‘Shadowmancer’. I am proud to be associated with Harry and his team.” Additionally, Satterlee has been named to the position of North American Director of Operations for the UK based publisher. His responsibilities at Markosia will include sales and marketing, submission reviews, license acquisitions and the hiring of a US based sales force. The new position includes a move for him and his family from the Midwest to the East Coast, where he will be closer to the publishing heartbeat of the country. “Harry Markos and I have worked out a strategic plan of attack for the upcoming year. 2006 will be a good one for Markosia and will feature structured, patient growth and a brand new marketing strategy,” said Satterlee. “We have set a limit at the number of floppies we will publish each month. We are working on a smart, well-thought-out plan.”
At Speakeasy, issues 1-3 came out for ‘Of Bitter Souls’ and ‘Mutation’. Issues 1-2 of ‘Smoke & Mirror’ also saw daylight. Issue 1 of ‘Super Crazy TNT Blast’ and issue one of ‘Lonebow’ and ‘Wargod’ were also released. Neither ‘Project Eon’ nor ‘Silent Ghost’ has been released as of yet.
Plans include going straight to a trade paperback for ‘Mutation’ (reprinting issues 1-3 and the never released issue 4). The original team of George T. Singley (Hellhounds, Shocking Gun Tales) and Ethen Beavers (Justice League Unlimited, Six) will remain on the book.
Also going straight to trade will be ‘Of Bitter Souls’ and ‘Smoke & Mirror’. Each trade paperback for these two titles will include the first six issues whether released or not. Each trade will also be approximately 186 pages in length. Mark Waid (upcoming “52”, Kingdom Come, Hunter-Killer) writes the introduction in “Of Bitter Souls: Volume 1: Saints & Sinners”, while the book will continue to feature the amazing art of industry veteran and fan favorite Norm Breyfogle (Batman, Prime, Detective). Other well known talents contributing to the book in one way or another include: Dick Giordano, Mike Oeming (Powers, Thor: Blood Oath) and Brian Augustyn (Painkiller Jane, Flash, Gotham By Gaslight). ‘Smoke & Mirror Volume 1: Time and Time Again’ features a cover by wildly popular artist/writer, Phil Hester. (The Athiest, Green Arrow, Firebreather, Nightwing) An alternate cover will also be solicited with art by amazing up-and-comer, Dave Riske, whose fabulous digital paintings will also grace the covers of all future Smoke & Mirror comics. Also featured will be artwork from the new series penciler/inker/colorist, Tim Kane. (Wildguard, Super Crazy TNT Blast)
Look for a ‘Lonebow/Wargod’ trade paperback as well. Project Eon is slated for issue one (48 Pages) to be released in June. Issue 2 (48 pages) will be in August (in time for WW Chicago) and a TPB will be released in October. Both series are penciled by rising star Freddie E. Williams II, whose work can be seen currently in the pages of DC’s ‘Seven Soldiers: Mister Miracle’ mini-series as well as an upcoming issue of ‘Aquaman’. Singley writes ‘Wargod’ and ‘Lonebow’ while Brett Thompson writes ‘Project Eon’.
‘Super Crazy TNT Blast’ will be re-named as, ‘Twilight Men’. The first issue will be double-sized and will include the first issue originally published by the former publisher. The awe inspiring art of Khary Randolph (Peter Parker: Spider-Man, Mutant 2099) will continue to grace the covers while E.J. Su (Transformers, Tech Jacket) is the series’ new artist. The series is written by Singley with Jim Mitchel. (Chance Of A Lifetime)
Silent Ghost will come out as a bi-monthly series later in the year and will feature the painted artwork of Brett Weldele (The Surrogates). Singley is also the writer on this title.
Also look for other Chimaera Studios titles in the future to be published by Markosia.
‘Flight Vs. Invisibility’, created and written by Brian Augustyn and Chuck Satterlee featuring art by Austrailian up and comer, Wayne Nichols.
Titles will be staggered throughout 2006 and 2007 so as to not flood the market at any one time. Visit www.markosia.com
Don’t forget to visit the Markosia Enterprises booth at New York Comic Con from February 24-26, 2006. Chimaera Studios members George T. Singley and Chuck Satterlee will be at the booth with other Markosia creators.
