WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Child's Play, in theaters now.

The Child's Play reboot presents a more powerful version of the horror franchise's iconic killer doll Chucky and director Lars Klevberg hopes to explore these upgrades and other killer dolls in future installments.

During the film, Chucky is able activate and reprogram other toys and devices to kill hapless victims, including a set of adorable stuffed animals named Buddi Bears. Interfaced with the evil doll, the Bears ravage customers at a local superstore in the climax of the film, with Klevberg planning to give the stuffed animals more screen time in a potential sequel.

"For me, this was just trying to make this the best movie possible," Klevberg told Bloody Disgusting. "Like, never foreshadowing any detailed plan of where you want to go as a franchise. But yeah, for me I think I love the Buddi Bear concept."

"I love the other stuff, and I think we should spend – if that happens – later on, we should spend more time with those assets," he continued. "I think that was presented a little too short in this movie, what the Buddi Bears are and can be capable of doing.”

While the future of the Child's Play franchise is still uncertain, Klevberg hoped to return to the horror franchise should the reboot prove successful enough at the box office.

"I haven’t said everything I need to say," Klevberg explained. "But for us, and the studio and the producers and me, we’re all just focusing on this first movie and trying to do that as good as possible, and it’s up to the audience to say that the studio and me are allowed to embark on the next one.”

Directed by Lars Klevberg from a script by Tyler Burton Smith, Child's Play stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman, Tim Matheson and Mark Hamill.
