Apparently unable to make the journey back to Kashyyyk for Life Day, Chewbacca will instead spend the holidays at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio.
As weird as that sounds, read on, because it gets weirder, as the beloved Star Wars character will have a cameo next week on Fox’s hit musical comedy-drama Glee. Honest! Just look at that photo!
According to Us Weekly, series star Matthew Morrison confirmed the news last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “We called up George Lucas and he gave us Chewbacca. There is only one guy who can officially be Chewbacca, and he lives in Northern California and they flew him in,” said Morrison, who directed the show’s Christmas special. “We had Chewbacca for the day, and it was just great, and we were all taking pictures with him.”
The Glee episode apparently won’t be quite as bizarre as it seems, as Morrison explained it’s designed as a Christmas show within a Christmas show: “It’s a throwback and a tribute to The Star Wars Holiday Special and the Judy Garland Christmas special.”
Presumably it involves one or more dream sequences. All I know is that there better be a scene in which Jane Lynch’s Sue Sylvester gives a musical nod to Ackmena, the singing bartender played by the late Bea Arthur.
The Glee holiday episode, “Extraordinary Merry Christmas,” airs next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
