The shipping-this-week "Star Wars" #1 from Marvel Comics made news for its million-selling status, and much of what made that print run possible is a wave of variant covers driving collectors to the new take on George Lucas' classic characters.

Today, one of the unseen variants for the issue arrived on the web in the form of a new Luke Skywalker image from painter Alex Ross. Sold exclusively through his online store at AlexRossStore.com, the image debuted on that site's Facebook page with a note that the version is "the very first Alex Ross exclusive variant cover."

CBR News reached out to Ross' site about the 3,000 print run variant, and they shared an exclusive look at the Skywalker painting sans trade dress.
