CBS Consumer Products and ReedPOP have announced “Star Trek: Mission New York,” a new fan event that will launch just in time to celebrate the franchise’s 50th year anniversary. The event will take place at the Javits Center in New York from September 2-4 and feature interactive exhibits, exclusive merchandise, celebrity guests, panels, screenings and more. Though no details have been released at this time, information about ticket sales, hotel information, guests and exhibitors will soon be revealed on the event’s official website.
“‘Star Trek’ fans set the gold standard of what these type of experiential events are all about, truly establishing this industry that we’ve been so proud to be a part of,” explained Lance Fensterman, Global Senior Vice President of ReedPOP, in a statement. “‘Star Trek: Mission New York’ will be a completely unique fan event unlike anything seen before, giving them the chance to go beyond panels and autograph signings, and immerse themselves in the ‘Star Trek” universe.”
“There has never been a better time to be a ‘Star Trek’ fan than right now with the 50th anniversary celebration on tap. ‘Star Trek: Mission New York’ will celebrate everything going on in the ‘Star Trek’ universe, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it back to the birthplace of the original ‘Star Trek’ convention,” added Liz Kalodner, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Consumer Products.
“Star Trek: Mission New York” isn’t the only exciting news for the franchise. In addition to the upcoming “Star Trek Beyond” film, CBS has announced a new “Star Trek” series for January 2017. Alex Kurtzman, who worked on both 2009’s “Star Trek” reboot film and its 2013 sequel “Star Trek Into Darkness,” will executive produce the series. This would be the first Star Trek TV series since “Star Trek: Enterprise,” which ran from 2001 to 2005 on the now-defunct UPN network.
The as-yet untitled new “Star Trek” show will first have a “special preview” on the CBS television network, before moving to CBS All Access, which is currently available for $5.99 a month.
