CBS has given the go-ahead to the pilot for Person of Interest, a crime-thriller from Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams and The Dark Knight co-writer Jonathan Nolan, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The script ignited a bidding war in early September, with CBS emerging victorious with a pilot commitment. Although details are scarce -- hey, it's an Abrams project! -- EW's James Hibberd reports the series centers on a former CIA assassin who teams with a scientist to prevent crimes before they happen.

Person of Interest marks the first venture into television for Nolan, younger brother and frequent collaborator of director Christopher Nolan. In addition to The Dark Knight, Jonathan Nolan co-wrote The Dark Knight Rises and The Prestige, and penned the short story on which Memento was based.

Abrams, who created Alias and co-created Lost and Fringe, will produce the new series for CBS under his Bad Robot banner. He also has TV pilots for the prison drama Alcatraz and the crime drama Pulp in the pipeline.
