Currently in its third season, CBS' "Under the Dome" will air its final episode on September 10, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In its announcement, the network promised that the finale will bring closure to the series as a whole. Though the series debuted with high ratings in 2013, it has recently only held an average of 1.8 rating among adults 18-49.

"Two years ago, 'Under the Dome' broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world," CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement. "'Dome’s' event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of 'Extant' and 'Zoo.' We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the 'Dome' coming down as dramatically as it went up."

Developed by Brian K. Vaughan from the Stephen King novel of the same name, the sci-fi drama centers on the residents of Chester’s Mill, which is suddenly and mysteriously covered by an invisible dome that cuts off the small town from the rest of the world. However, as the sneak peek reveals, that barrier may soon disappear.

"Under the Dome" airs Thursday nights at 10 pm EST on CBS.
