CBS Announces Renewals, “Supergirl” Not Yet Among Them

While it’s been indirectly confirmed that CBS’ “Supergirl” has been picked up for a second season, a press release from the network reveals that Kara Zor-El’s return has not yet made it official. CBS has announced the renewal of 11 more series — although “Supergirl” is not among them.

But that doesn’t mean “Supergirl” is done after its debut season; earlier this month, CBS CEO Les Moonves stated that all five of the network’s freshman series would receive second seasons.

It’s also worth pointing out that “Supergirl” executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg have discussed their season two plans, as recently as yesterday. Following a screening of “Supergirl’s” upcoming crossover episode with the CW’s “Flash,” Berlanti and Kreisberg spoke about their hope to get “Wonder Woman” star Lynda Carter on the show — as the president of the United States. When Berlanti said he was upset they couldn’t make it work in season one, Kreisberg added, “We’re going to do it, we’ll just do it next year.”

So far CBS has ordered new seasons of “Blue Bloods,” “Elementary,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Madam Secretary,” “Mom,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Scorpion,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race.” “The Big Bang Theory” and “NCIS” were renewed for another year in an earlier announcement.

“Supergirl” airs on CBS on Mondays at 8 PM ET.
