Berkeley Breathed continues his "Bloom County" tradition of taking the edge off of tragedy with humor, dedicating his latest strip to the memory of Carrie Fisher.

Today's strip features Opus in his oft-used Slave Leia costume sharing what we imagine is a comforting cup of hot cocoa with Abby (dressed as "A New Hope" Leia), lamenting the constantly depressing, often upsetting news that 2016 has brought us.

A longtime and unabashed fan of "Star Wars," Breathed has satirized the trilogy many times over the decades, casting Opus, Binkley, Steve Dallas and the rest of the cast as R2-D2, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, respectively, while Leia Organa was portrayed by Bobbi Harlow, side buns and all. Breathed most recently showed his "Star Wars" fandom in a series of strips mashing up the films with "Star Trek" and "Godzilla."

After suffering a heart attack last week, Carrie Fisher passed away Monday, Dec. 27. She was 60 years old. “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” Fisher's family's official statement read in part. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly.”

Breathed's "Bloom County" releases daily (more or less) on Facebook.
