Casting is underway for Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel, which is set to kick off production early next year. According to Variety, the film -- which will see Brie Larson star in the title role -- is reportedly looking at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Ben Mendelsohn for a villainous role.

The report states that Mendelsohn is in talks for the main antagonist of the film, which is expected to be -- but not confirmed as -- a Skrull leader. Should talks take, this would reunite the actor with his Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who are helming the film for Marvel Studios.

Filming on the project will take place in California early next year. Outside of Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, who will his return as Nick Fury, Mendelsohn is the first new casting to be announced for the project. Boden and Fleck reportedly had the actor in mind for the film long before they approached him.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script by Tomb Raider writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson in the titular role. Captain Marvel arrives March 8, 2019.
