Filming of The Avengers in Cleveland is spreading from the battle scene on East Ninth Street (aka New York City’s 42nd Street) to a nearby “jewelry store,” and Public Square, which The Plain Dealer reports is being transformed into Stuttgart, Germany, for a night scene set to begin Monday.
Shooting took place this morning at “Colantotte Jewelry,” where extras ran out, stopped and stared at the sky. Tom Hiddleston was apparently seen running toward the crowd of fleeing extras. There were also unconfirmed sightings of Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.
More photos also surfaced from Tuesday’s fight scene between Captain America and two guys wearing motion-capture sensors. If the presence of the second motion-capture performer, and a photo of (presumaby) Chris Evans’ stunt double holding that high-tech weapon, aren’t enough to convince us that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are indeed fighting a certain extraterrestrial threat, there’s this tidbit from The Plain Dealer: “A person close to the filming confirmed a long-held belief that the villains in the film — besides Thor’s evil half-brother, Loki — are the shape-changing aliens, The Skrulls, who have been perennial villains in the Marvel Universe since 1961.”
The Avengers, which opens May 4, 2012, also stars Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders and Stellan Skarsgård.
