Captain America Switches Sides, “Howard The Duck” Closes Shop In Marvel’s September Releases

Check out Marvel Comics’ full solicitations for September 2016!

This September, “Civil War II” will release its penultimate issue — and its effects will be felt across the Marvel Universe. Heroes will form unexpected alliances as well as fight unexpected foes, and more than a few characters will leap into the spotlight. To highlight some of the events coming up in a few months, CBR has scoured Marvel’s September solicits for the biggest developments.

  • Some Marvel titles will get Prostate Awareness month variant covers; including “All-New, All-Different Avengers” #14, “Captain America: Steve Rogers” #6, “Invincible Iron Man” #13, “Captain Marvel” #9 and “The Mighty Thor” #11.
  • Ulysses, the new Inhuman at the center of “Civil War II’s” conflict, will make predictions that affect the stories in “Luke Cage and Iron Fist,” “Civil War II: Amazing Spider-Man” #4, “Squadron Supreme” #11, “Spider-Man” #8.

  • The cover for “Captain America: Steve Rogers” #6 implies that Steve Rogers will shift sides at some point during “Civil War II.” While the initial “Civil War II: Choosing Sides” cover had him on Captain Marvel’s side, previous covers for “Invincible Iron Man” and “Captain America: Steve Rogers” showed Cap fighitng alongside Iron Man. Now, the latest “Steve Rogers” cover features Cap fighting alongside Carol again.

  • The all-new Wasp will take the lead in “All-New, All-Different Avengers #14, as she “seeks guidance in the most unexpected place.”
  • U.S. Agent returns in “Captain America: Sam Wilson” #13 — and he doesn’t look to be an ally of Sam Wilson’s either.
  • It looks like Elektra’s taking on a surprising new role as the commander of Agent Coulson’s former team in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #9.” They’ll be going up against Coulson’s Third Faction.
  • Both “Web-Warriors” and “Howard the Duck” will each conclude their runs with issue #11; both series will get “last issue variants” to mark the occasion.
  • Miles Morales will be keeping busy in September; he’s fighting Venom in “Spider-Man” #8 and Winter Soldier in “Thunderbolts” #5.

  • The civil war will go cosmic in “Guardians of the Galaxy” #12 when Carol Danvers faces off with Gamora.

  • Scott Lang’s long-awaited trial will begin in “Astonishing Ant-Man” #12.
  • After almost a year, “Amazing Spider-Man” #18 will see Doc Ock will finally make a move after being trapped in the body of the Living Brain.
  • Two major Doctor Strange characters will return in September’s two “Doctor Strange” issues; Baron Mordo will appear in “Doctor Strange” #12 and Clea will return in “Doctor Strange Annual” #1.

  • “Old Man Logan” #11 will see the titular clawed character team up with Lady Deathstrike in order to escape the even more villainous — and mysterious — Silent Order.
  • After outrunning it since the launch of the series, “All-New X-Men” #13 will see the teen X-team encounter the Terrigen Mist that’s spreading across the globe.
