With word that Josh Brolin will bring Cable to life for Fox's "Deadpool 2," fan reaction was swift, much of it in favor of the casting news. Brolin's co-star, Ryan Reynolds, also weighed in on the announcement as he's won't to do, tweeting his own approval and excitement at seeing Cable's role finally filled.

Now, Cable creator Rob Liefeld has officially put his own stamp of approval on Brolin as the time-traveling mutant superstar, crafting an illustration of the actor in the popular X-Men character's signature outfit, star-scarred eye and all.

Cable debuted in 1986’s “Uncanny X-Men” #201 as Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of the psychic Jean Grey. The character first appeared as an adult operating under the moniker of Cable in 1990’s “New Mutants” #87. He’s known best as the leader of X-Force, which has also counted Domino and Deadpool among its members. The introduction of Cable and Domino in “Deadpool” 2 will help to pave the way for Fox’s planned “X-Force” film franchise.

Arriving in theaters in 2018, “Deadpool 2” will see the return of Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Karan Soni, along with newcomer Zazie Beetz as Domino. The film is directed by “John Wick’s” David Leitch.
