The convention floor may be closed to the public for another 24 hours, but that hasn't stopped the publishers exhibiting at the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo -or C2E2 - from beginning their wave of announcements and exclusives today. Thursday, as the show was still being put together and retailers were gathering for a Diamond Comics Summit, Avatar Press revealed to CBR News the return of a fan favorite comics character and an entirely new company to help bring her "back to life."

Later this year, Lady Death will make her comeback to comic books as penned by her creator Brian Pulido and co-writer Mike Wolfer under the Boundless Comics banner, a new company founded by William Christensen and his partners at Avatar Press (who also released the character's last series in 2007).

"Launching a separate company allows us to maintain our focus at Avatar and provide Lady Death with a spotlight at Boundless," Christensen said of the unusual move. The public's reintroduction to Lady Death -a character who mixes hellish myth, high adventure fantasy and horror stylings -will come two-fold from Boundless. The company will start with a monthly Lady Death series and a series of trades called "Lady Death: Origins," collecting existing Lady Death material.

The new comics, which were promised to present a darker spin on the franchise, would involve the workd of Wolfer (known for Avatar work on series like "Gravel") and Pulido. "This is not some glossy new spin on the classic Lady Death," noted Christensen. "It's a relentless take on what makes the character great. This is the Death fans have been dying to see."

Boundless shared three pieces of new Lady Death art with CBR News. Keep it locked here for more information on the new series (and the new publisher) as it becomes available.
