It’s been 20 years since Sarah Michelle Gellar took on the role of Buffy Summers in the television adaptation of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” kicking vampire butts and taking demon names. Well, the legacy of the television show will continue to live on in comic book form. The latest of such installments is the newly announced “Buffy: The High School Years — Parental Parasite” from Dark Horse Comics.
The new entry is the third volume in the comics series based on the first season of “Buffy,” when the core characters were all alive and attending Sunnydale High School. “Parental Parasite” will reunite Joss Whedon, the show’s original creator, with the franchise as a producer. The new volume looks to tackle Buffy’s familial turmoil in the form of a demonic sibling rivalry.
“In ‘Parental Parasite,’ Buffy struggles to deal with her mother Joyce’s sudden interest in spending quality time with her. Balancing this new development with her schoolwork, her friends, and her regular vampire-slaying duties proves to be a challenge. However, when Joyce becomes hypnotized by a childlike demon that craves motherly care, Buffy experiences a new kind of sibling rivalry—except in Buffy’s case, her ‘sibling’ is actually a monster!”
“Parental Parasite” is written by Kel McDonald, and will see the return of Yishan Li, artist for the first two volumes of the “High School Years” series. The new volume goes on sale June 28, 2017.
