Sarah Michelle Gellar says she won't be a part of any potential Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Now 43, Gellar went on record to say she's a bit too "long in the tooth" for the role.

Gellar portrayed the titular vampire hunter in the popular series from 1997 to 2003. In a recent interview on the On with Mario Lopez podcast, she explained the monsters portrayed in the show "were a metaphor for the horrors of adolescence," as reported by Deadline. "I do think that story lends itself, it’d be interesting to see how a chosen one would deal with that. I don’t think it’s me, I don’t think I should be the one doing it."

"I love that the story holds up, and that people are calling for that," said Gellar, but also added that she's "way too tired and cranky to put in that work again."

When asked about director Joss Whedon, who is currently facing accusations of abuse on set, Gellar declined to comment directly, saying, "I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently, so I will not be making any further statements at this time. But I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out."

Created by Joss Whedon and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicholas Brendan, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head, Charisma Carpenter, David Boreanaz, Seth Green and James Marsters, Buffy the Vampire Slayer originally aired from 1997-2003. The reboot is currently in development, but no other details are known at this time.
