Writer Bryan Hill and artist Miguel Mendonca are the new creative team for Detective Comics, beginning with Issue #982 in June. Eddy Barrows will provide the covers.

According to Den of Geek, the pair kick off their run with a five-issue story arc called "On the Outside," and sees Batman team up with Black Lightning, teasing a reunion of the DC Comics superhero team The Outsiders. It is not known if Hill and Mendonca are only on for these five issues, or if their time will extend further.

James Tynion, who is the current writer of Detective Comics, will step down with Issue #981, after penning the title since its renumbering in DC Rebirth.

Hill has increased his workload at DC Comics over the last year; he is writing The Wild Storm spinoff miniseries Wildstorm: Michael Cray with Warren Ellis, and will team Black Lightning with a Hanna-Barbera character in Black Lightning/Hong Kong Phooey Special by Hill, Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz (with a back-up by Parker and Kolins featuring a pre-Demon Jason Blood and The Funky Phantom). Hill will also co-write Image Comics' Cyberforce relaunch with Matt Hawkins later this month.
