On the heels of the recent flurry of casting announcements for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, director Robert Rodriguez has confirmed Bruce Willis will return for the sequel.

"Bruce is back, so you'll be seeing him," he told MTV during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival.

In the 2005 film, Willis starred as John Hartigan, the cynical but selfless police detective who's the central character in Frank Miller's 1996 miniseries That Yellow Bastard. He also makes a cameo in the 1997 short story "Just Another Saturday Night," which is the basis for one of the segments for A Dame to Kill For.

Rodriguez also offered a little more information about Johnny, the new character played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. "He plays a gambler, a very cocky gambler, who comes in and tries to beat the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game," he said. "The story's called 'The Long, Bad Night.' He beats the wrong guy in a game and bad stuff happens to him. Bad stuff."

In addition to Gordon-Levitt, Willis joins fellow returning cast members Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and Jaime King, and newcomers Dennis Haysbert, Jamie Chung, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven and Christopher Meloni.

Sin City grossed nearly $159 million worldwide. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens Oct. 4.
