Co-creators Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, joined by colorist Elizabeth Breitweiser, return to the world of "Criminal" this April, celebrating its tenth anniversary with a special one-shot. Described by Image Comics as a "novella-length" story, the issue features a comic-within-the-comic in the form of a '70s-style Kung Fu magazine starring a werewolf.

The main story reveals details from the early days of the series' popular father/son characters Teeg and Tracy Lawless, on the run from the police. "A big part of 'Criminal' is finding new ways into noir stories," Brubaker explained in a statement. "Tis time we get to see it all from the point of view of a 12-year-old kid forced to help his father, who is a career thief and murderer."

"Once again I get to try out a new style, after the cartooning of 'The Last Of The Innocent, 'and the sword and sorcery of last year's 'Savage Sword of Criminal,'" added Phillips of the issue's . "This time I get to figure out how to draw a kung-fu werewolf without him looking too silly. Let's hope I can pull it off! Even if I can't, it's great to be back in the 'Criminal' universe again, it's like we've never been away."

In addition to the standard-sized release, the one-shot will be available in a magazine-sized variant edition, featuring a cover from one of the werewolf's "vintage" issues.

"Criminal: 10th Anniversary Special" hits stores Wednesday, April 13.
