Brian K. Vaughan to Adapt King's Under the Dome for Showtime

Acclaimed comics writer and former Lost scribe Brian K. Vaughan has been hired to adapt Stephen King's sci-fi thriller Under the Dome as a drama series for Showtime.

Eisner-winning comics writer, and Lost alum, Brian K. Vaughan will adapt Stephen King's 2009 novel Under the Dome for Showtime, Deadline reports.

Announced in late August, the DreamWorks-produced drama series is based on the sci-fi thriller about a picturesque town in Maine that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the world by an invisible force field. An ex-Army captain is trapped inside the town, where he teams with a handful of citizens, including three children, to oppose a politician attempting to seize power — and to discover the source of the Dome.

DreamWorks Television acquired the rights to Under the Dome shortly after the novel's release. King will executive produce along with DreamWorks’ Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

Vaughan, best known for his comics series Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina and Runaways and the graphic novel Pride of Baghdad, wrote for ABC's Lost during seasons three through five. Under the Dome will be his first television work since leaving Lost in 2009.

In other King-adaptation news, Variety reports Palomar Pictures is teaming with Grosvenor Park to produce Rose Madder, based on the author's 1995 fantasy novel about a woman who flees an abusive husband and travels into a painting.
