The Boondocks might have concluded last month, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Cartoon Network wants to continue working with creator Aaron McGruder for the foreseeable future.

Immediately after announcing a first-look deal with Adult Swim, McGruder revealed he has a new project in the works called Hooligan Squad to go along with the August-launching Black Jesus. THR describes Hooligan Squad as a future-set adventure based in a version of the United States occupied by Japan. The series focuses on a group of Americans trying to take back San Francisco.

"With The Boondocks and the upcoming Black Jesus series, we consider Aaron very instrumental in the success of Adult Swim, and this deal is the continuation of a great partnership," Mike Lazzo, executive vice president and creative director of Adult Swim, said said in a statement.

McGruder launched The Boondocks as a comic strip in his college newspaper before eventually getting picked up by Universal Press Syndicate. The animated series debut in 2005; the final season, which was produced without McGruder's involvement, concluded last month.

"It's a rare thing to have a network home," McGruder said. "Even more rare is a home that wants to see you grow and expand as a creator. Adult Swim is headed to new horizons, and I'm happy to be along for the ride."
