Blade Star Wesley Snipes Ordered To Begin Prison Sentence

Blade’s vampire-hunting days are over — at least for the next three years.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that a Florida judge today rejected Wesley Snipes’ appeal for a new trial and ordered the 48-year-old actor to begin serving a three-year sentence for tax evasion. It’s unclear when or where he must surrender himself to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The star of the Blade trilogy had been fighting his 2008 conviction on three misdemeanor charges of failing to file income tax returns from 1999 to 2005. At his 2008 sentencing it was revealed that Snipes, a Florida resident, had earned more than $38 million during that period yet had filed no tax returns and paid no taxes.

He also stood accused of conspiring with Eddie Ray Kahn of American Rights Litigators and Douglas Rosile to file false refund claims. Snipes was acquitted of the felonies, but found guilty on the lesser charges. Kahn was sentenced to 10 years and Rosile to 54 months.

In a 17-page order issued today, U.S. District Court Judge William Terrell Hodges wrote that Snipes had received a fair trial, and that “The time has come for the judgment to be enforced.”
