New concept art provides a dreary glimpse of futuristic Los Angeles in the sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi masterpiece "Blade Runner."

“The climate has gone berserk – the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” director Denis Villeneuve tells Entertainment Weekly of the setting of the film, which takes place several decades after the original.

That film, based on Philp K Dick’s 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," followed ex-Blade Runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) as he tracked down four genetically engineered replicants. However, few details have surfaced about the sequel, written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, leading to much speculation.

Produced by Scott, the sequel stars Ryan Gosling, with Ford returning to the role of Deckard. They're joined by Robin Wright and Dave Bautista, among others.

The untitled "Blade Runner" sequel is targeted for release in October 2017.
