Following reports that Black Lightning was set to receive a full series pick-up, the CW confirmed the news today, along with news that iZombie had received a renewal for a fourth season.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Black Lightning is expected to premiere during the mid-season because the show has only filmed its pilot episode thus far. The series, which will star Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie) as Jefferson Pierce, will follow the hero after he has already hung up his altar ego years earlier. It isn’t until his daughters find themselves pulled in various bits of trouble that Pierce will return as the wanted vigilante and DC Comics legend — Black Lightning.
The Game producers Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil will serve as showrunners on Black Lightning. The duo also wrote the pilot episode.
As for the CW’s frequent bubble show, iZombie has received a fourth season pick-up. Series showrunner Rob Thomas recently went on record to say he felt “confident” that the show would land a renewal, and, ahead of their upfronts, the CW has given the green light to another season of the zombie drama.
iZombie is based on the Vertigo comic of the same name, and stars Rose McIver as Olivia Moore, a former medical resident who is turned into a zombie. In order to sate her appetite for human brains, she takes a job at the Seattle coroner’s office and feasts on the cadavers. The third season is set to air its finale on June 27.
Airing Tuesdays at 9 pm ET on The CW, “iZombie” is produced by Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright, the creators of “Veronica Mars,” and stars Rose McIver as Olivia Moore, Malcolm Goodwin as CliveBabinaux, Rahul Kohli as Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, Robert Buckley as Major Lilywhite, David Anders as Blaine DeBeers, Aly Michalka as Peyton Charles, Andrea Savage as Vivian Stoll, and newcomer Jason Dohring as Chase Graves.
