Although they have all produced acclaimed works for Marvel and DC, writers David F. Walker (Naomi) and Chuck Brown (Aquaman, Black Panther) and artist Sanford Greene (Power Man and Iron Fist) are best known for their creator-owned series, Bitter Root. Partially a work of historical fiction with a healthy dose of monster hunting and the supernatural thrown in for good measure, the comic recently received its second Eisner award for Best Continuing Series after winning the same award two years earlier in 2020.

CBR had a chance to catch up with two of the creators of the award-winning series, co-writer Chuck Brown and artist Sanford Greene, at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 just before winning their latest award in CBR's SDCC media room. The creators discussed the real-life inspirations behind their series, as well as the topics of racism and segregation addressed in the book and their decision to add supernatural elements to their fascinating -- and oftentimes terrifying -- story.

Bitter Root is written by David F. Walker and Chuck Brown, with art by Sanford Greene. The first three collected volumes of the book are available now from Image Comics.
