Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch have signed on to reprise their roles in "Independence Day 2," director Roland Emmerich announced this morning on Twitter.

In the 1996 original, Pullman played President Thomas J. Whitmore, a former Air Force pilot turned politician turned president who rallies the world to confront the alien threat. Hirsch was Julius Levinson, the father of Jeff Goldblum's character David.

Franchise veterans Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner are also confirmed to return. Newcomers include Jessie Usher as Dylan Hiller (the son of Fox and Will Smith’s characters from the original), Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Travis Tope.

"Independence Day 2" opens June 24, 2016.
